Hannah has bachelors degrees in Psychology and Philosophy from Boston University. She has always been on a quest for understanding why dogs make the choices they do, and how to influence those choices. After getting her college education she earned her dog training certification as a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner. She enjoyed teaching group dog training classes to people and their pets with the knowledge she gained from her formal education.
Beyond teaching pet dogs, Hannah was an intern in the Marine Mammal Department at the New England Aquarium where she got hands on experience with seals and sea lions. She also spent years training puppies who went on to become service dogs. You may recognize her from NBC 10 Boston where she had weekly segments on her progress training the NBC 10 Boston Puppy with a Purpose.
Hannah's favorite way to train is working one on one with people and their dogs to meet their specific needs. She loves to demonstrate how to communicate with dogs and to teach dog owners how they can too!
Positive reinforcement training is about encouraging the good choices your dog makes. During positive reinforcement, when a dog performs the desired behavior, the behavior is marked (with a click or a verbal marker word) and then reinforced with a treat. This increases the frequency of the dog performing the desired behavior in the future. Hannah does not train with punishment training methods.
